Keirin race reaps record betting return

FUKUI, Japan - The top three long shots paid out 2,340,220 yen on a 100-yen wager at a keirin race on April 12, the highest-ever return in the history of professional cycling in Japan. All combinations of 6-7-4 -- cyclists who finished 1-2-3 respectively in a race at the Fukui cycle-race track in Fukui Prefecture -- broke the previous record of 1,857,600 yen set in July 2002 in Aomori Prefecture. A man in his late 50s or early 60s hit the jackpot, according to cycle-race track officials. Photo was provided by race organizers. (Kyodo)
